Are dental implants reimbursed by CNAS?
No. In Romania, dental implants are not reimbursed by the National Health Insurance House (CNAS). The full cost of the procedure is paid by the patient, regardless of insured status, age or diagnosis. CNAS reimburses a range of basic dental services, but dental implants are not part of the reimbursed package.
What CNAS covers in dentistry
For insured patients, at practices that hold a contract with the Health Insurance House, a range of basic services are reimbursed — fully or partially, within a monthly cap: the dental consultation, certain extractions, treatment of caries through fillings and, under specific conditions, removable prosthetic work. Children and young people under 18, as well as students up to 26 without income, benefit from broader coverage of the basic package. The monthly budget allocated to dentistry is limited and can be used up quickly. The rules and caps are set and updated annually.
Why implants are not reimbursed
A dental implant is classified as a prosthetic rehabilitation procedure, outside the basic package covered by the state. For this reason, both placing the implant and the prosthetic work supported on it are carried out privately.
